UPDATE FROM COUNCILLOR YVONNE PEACOCK

Councillor Yvonne Peacock has asked us to share an update from her, following a meeting with the ICB.

================

Since I met with the 6 Parish Councils, it was clear that action was needed to find a solution to the devastating news of the closure of the GP surgery in Reeth.

I have met with Jason Stamp (Chair) and Teresa Fenech (Chief Exec) of the ICB.

I made it very clear that it would be unacceptable for patients of the 2 dales to travel to Hawes, Leyburn and Richmond GP practices.

I pointed out the dangers of winter weather and all the problems our residents would have.

I said it was unthinkable to go forward with this closure.

In some ways, I believe they had not understood about the need to travel over the moors. Hopefully they will now have to rethink the future.

They told me that although they have a duty to allocate patients to a doctor, they are still working to secure someone to take over the Practice.

I have been in constant touch with Rishi and his office and between us, we are working on a number of options, as well as on the ICB to find a solution.

As you will realise, it is only days since we found out and we are working towards a solution.

At this stage, this is the only information I can give you.

As soon as I have anything else, I will share it with the 6 Parish Councils as they are also following up other lines of enquiry.
